Summer Euphoria with Camels by Mario C

August 28, 2013 Comments off

The summer excitement flowed freely through the meeting. The laughter was abundant, while the agenda
occasionally seemed like an afterthought. The meeting started with multiple announcements: Table Topics Contests on 16th September and Expat Expo on September 1st. We were lucky to have several guests, including a newlywed couple from Russia!

Adriana finished her CC manual by informing us of ”homo-digitalis”, a theme that reverberated during the meeting. She humbly discussed her troubles with technologies. Mentioning how her boss said she was ”nobody”, due to her lacking online presence. Later, she was rewarded with best speech of the evening.

Mila presented her international self in her Ice Breaker speech. She portrayed her marathon experience and how an elderly gentleman motivated her to finish. Her 26.2 mile long run altered how she now approaches life.

Our storyteller, Manuel, portrayed a touching tale between himself, a Syrian boy, and a Mexican film director. The Syrian boy took multiple pictures of his city, used by the director to impose over his city in Mexico. Later, we were surprised to learn that Manual had just 10 minutes to prepare prior to the meeting!

Later, Florian gave his humorous topics on sports, which later transitioned to a focus on a brand new sport: camel riding! A brand new sport, which is hoped to increase the Swiss success at the next Olympics!

A carefree evening with plenty of summer cheer! Join us next time on September 2nd. Expect more laughs or accept our guaranteed refund!

Toastmastering in the Elephant Canyon by Marina R.

A true Toastmaster can practice his/her public speaking skills even on the Elephant Canyon Walk. An enthusiastic group of Toastmasters from our Zurich TM club proved it on Sunday, 25th of August while attending the summer event. Our beloved president Theo brilliantly organized this event and gave us a chance to discover hiking trails in Zurich city. Theo even managed to provide the most suitable weather for it, not to mention a huge elephant on the way. As per our guests they were more impressed by our public speaking skills than by the elephant. We were toasting and talking on different topics and had a great time. A special acknowledgement goes to Georg V. who made it to our summer event and shared with us some pearls of wisdom on how to relax and enjoy life. We were happy to have friends of Maggie, Sherry and her mother, join us as guests.
A Toastmaster event isn’t perfect without guests, isn’t it? Those who didn’t join us missed a chance to see the historical wine-press and a big water wheel. Therefore they should by all means consider coming to our next summer event as a “Want to be There” meeting. It was indeed a very special Toastmaster experience. Many thanks to Theo for making it happen.
